There Are A Few Jems In This Show...
...But not many. If you're willing to do some work on this evening's offerings, you will be rewarded with some very nice singles - and a couple of doubles.
...
There are a lot of problems here that Dave has been able to smooth out but, he could only do so much with what he was given. Firstly and most notably is that Bobby's singing is horribe tonight. Whether it was too much injestion or he was under the weather (probably the later), when you can say that Jerry was singing better - that says it all. Rooster was the only one Bobby did a good job on - doing it particularly well BTW. Everything else is crap. I kept GSET simply because I had to, coming right out of Bertha. But yikes, it 's rare that Bob sounds this bad. The other problem is that Bobby's mic was just too hot, and I couldn't add enough reverb to soften him to acceptability. But the other songs took the reverb pretty well, and I'm very happy with them. The others I kept were Althea, To Lay Me Down, Black Peter, Brokendown, and I switched to mixing Cold Rain > Rooster because I love Cold Rain & Snow so much; and Jerry's singing on Jack-A-Roe was iffy. The first three songs in the first set are problematic with David having to fade in the SBD from the AUD; and they were a little clumsy (sorry Dave, I'm getting picky in my old age, xoxo). With so many technical and auditory problems, it's an average show at best. But the above exceptions certainly are worth the trouble of digging 'em out. Thanks Dave for your work. Without this matrix, none of these songs would be worth collecting. It's a good platform for a little extra knoodling.
